Real Scottish driving instructor accident claims

These cases show two different needs: keeping an instructor teaching during repairs, and supporting a total-loss valuation after a tuition car is written off. Each account describes an individual outcome.

Replacement dual control cars after a non-fault accident

A replacement tuition car needs to fit the work you do. We operate a specialist dual control fleet and assess the vehicle requirements for each claim. Tell us about:

  • Your usual car and whether you teach manual or automatic lessons
  • Dual controls, additional instructor mirrors and other equipment required
  • The delivery postcode and where your damaged car is now
  • Booked lessons, pupils’ practical tests and the next teaching date affected
  • Any other suitable vehicle you already have available

We arrange replacement vehicle hire subject to status. We confirm the proposed vehicle, availability, insurance and agreement terms before you proceed. Read our UK driving instructor claims guide for the wider service.

What if a pupil has a driving test booked?

Tell us the test date and centre at the first call. A hire car used for a practical test in Scotland must have dual controls and meet the other DVSA vehicle and insurance rules. Check the official driving test car requirements before agreeing to use a replacement for a test.

From recovery to repair or total loss

First, we review the accident circumstances and the condition and location of your tuition vehicle. We can discuss accident recovery, engineer assessment where needed and repair coordination. If your car is already at a bodyshop, send its contact details and explain any arrangements you have agreed.

If the vehicle is deemed a total loss, keep its mileage, specification, service history and condition evidence available. Our East Kilbride total-loss case shows the £5,165 settlement and the basis of the comparison with the supplied trade valuation.

To discuss lost teaching income, keep your original lesson diary, cancellation messages, earnings records and receipts, including expenses saved and the steps taken to reduce disruption. We assess eligible accident-related losses from the evidence.

Driving instructor accident support across Scotland

Contact our Ayrshire team with both the accident location and the postcode where a replacement tuition car would be needed. Those may be different if you were teaching away from your home area.

For enquiries from Fife, Dundee, Angus, Perth, Aberdeen, the Highlands or the Scottish Borders, provide the collection and delivery details so we can check the practical arrangements. Remote and island journeys require an agreed plan for access and transport.

Scottish driving schools and bodyshop referrals

A driving school manager or repairer can contact Dash Claims with the instructor’s permission. Tell us which tuition vehicle is affected, the instructor’s working requirements and who will coordinate updates. Schools with several cars can also ask about our business fleet accident support.

Drivers, instructors and repairers can deal directly with the claims team. To see clients’ wider experiences, read the Dash Claims customer reviews.

What to do after a driving lesson accident in Scotland

  1. Make the scene safe. Stop, check everyone involved and seek emergency help where needed.
  2. Preserve the evidence. Exchange details and keep photographs, footage and independent witness information where available.
  3. Tell us what you need to keep teaching. Give the vehicle location, gearbox, equipment requirements and any urgent lessons or tests.
  4. Notify your insurer. You must report the accident even if you do not intend to claim through your own policy. See the official accident reporting guidance.

Scottish driving school accident questions

Can I contact Dash Claims if my instructor insurance is arranged elsewhere?

Yes. Tell us about your non-fault accident and tuition vehicle needs. We review the circumstances before confirming how we can help.

Can you help if the pupil was driving?

Yes, you can ask us to assess the claim. The fact that a learner was driving does not establish responsibility. Send your account, photographs, footage and witness details so the team can review the evidence.

Who pays for the replacement tuition vehicle?

For accepted non-fault claims we pursue reasonable accident-related costs from the at-fault insurer. Hire is subject to status and the proposed agreement, which we explain before you proceed. No policy excess is payable to Dash Claims on accepted non-fault claims.

Will every instructor get recovery in 30 minutes?

The 30-minute response was achieved in the East Kilbride case. Timing for another accident depends on the location, access, vehicle condition and availability. We confirm arrangements for each enquiry.

Can you help a driving school with more than one damaged car?

Contact the team with each registration, accident details, location and the working requirements of the instructors affected. We review the vehicles and replacement needs individually.
