“Not my fault” and an insurance fault record can mean different things
You may be certain another driver caused the collision. Insurers can still record a claim as fault while their costs remain unrecovered. The label is therefore not always an admission that you drove badly.
In ordinary conversation, “no fault” and “non-fault” usually describe an accident someone else caused. For a claim record, ask whether liability is agreed, whether recovery is complete and how your insurer currently classifies the incident.
What evidence helps establish responsibility?
Keep photographs, original dashcam footage, witness contact details and a clear account of the location and events. Avoid assuming that a particular collision type automatically settles liability. Where accounts differ, the evidence matters.
Excess, no-claims discount and premiums are separate questions
An excess can be payable when claiming under your own policy, even if you expect the insurer to recover costs later. A no-claims discount depends on the policy and claim position. Your renewal premium can still change after a non-fault incident, even when your discount is retained.
AXA’s non-fault claims guide explains the role of cost recovery and the potential effect on premiums. Individual policy terms apply.
Does reporting an accident mean claiming on my policy?
Reporting tells your insurer about an incident. Making a claim asks for payment or other benefits under the policy. Check the reporting requirements even if you intend to pursue another party directly. GOV.UK explains accident reporting duties.
What if the driver is uninsured or cannot be traced?
Tell our team immediately, because the ordinary insured third-party route may not be available. Different eligibility rules can apply. Start with our hit-and-run accident information.
How Dash Claims can help
We review the circumstances and explain the proposed arrangements for accepted claims. There is no policy excess payable to Dash Claims on accepted non-fault claims. We arrange replacement vehicle hire subject to status.
